Unemployment is at a relatively high percentage rate in the state of Missouri, standing at about 7.7 percent in comparison to the national average of about 9 percent. Beginning just today, Monday, June 15 2009, due to a signing by Governor of Missouri just three days ago, there are now also extended benefits available to you in Missouri in the event that your unemployment runs out prior to your finding a new job. To access those extended benefits your own benefits for your initial unemployment claim must be exhausted, and your Federal Emergency Compensation must also be exhausted. If both those things are true of you, then you are entitled to extended Benefits’ under Missouri’s new law, and can claim an additional twenty weeks of unemployment compensation. If you are among those who have no benefits left to you under unemployment claims in Missouri then the new law here will benefit you greatly.

You should receive instructions in the mail that will explain to you how to file for your added weeks of unemployment compensation and when you are eligible to file for those. The last date that you may file to claim those benefits will be December 24th of 2009, but you may file or telephone your unemployment office beginning Monday June 15,2009 to file for your extended benefits. To do so, you must contact your regional claim center.

In order to file you will need to have certain information ready before you begin.
Your social security number, the last date which you worked as well as all of your employers details and the address of your work will be necessary to file for your unemployment compensation, whether you file online or in person at a Missouri unemployment office.
